JoAnne,
I really like this idea. If I understand it correctly, the primary outcome of
interest would be the quality of the therapeutic relationship (e.g, the
alliance). So the idea is: Does FAP training improve the therapeutic
alliance? There are lots of ways to measure the alliance including
client-report and observer (video-tape)-based, so you can have multiple outcome
measures. It seems like a very clever idea - given that the alliance predicts
outcome in lots of studies, can we actually provide a training that improves
the alliance? Now I want to do a study like that, too!
The second question is: Does FAP training improve therapeutic skill? I'm not
sure how you would measure skill, but you could certainly measure if the
student therapist engages in FAP techniques after FAP training. In that case
the question is: Does FAP training actually lead to use of FAP techniques? A
simple question to ask but useful I think.
The third question you describe has to do with the FIAT but I'm not quite sure
what you were writing there. Please clarify.
The final question has to do with symptom function outcome measures, which seems
great except hard to do given only 3-4 sessions of therapy!
Jonathan
