Fructose Malabsorption Support Group is a support group that was set up for those dealing with Fructose Malabsorption (FM) or what is also known as Dietary Fructose Intolerance.
This is **ONLY** a support group and is **NOT** intended to take the place of a medical professional's treatment. It is a place to share, cry, seek comfort, laugh, find tips and meet people who just "Get It!" The group is here to help decrease stress and isolation by providing emotional support and information to families by connecting with those who have similar concerns. Our desire is to share, support and help each other in a friendly environment.
FM is a digestive disorder of the small intestines, where the intestines are unable to efficiently absorb fructose, a simple sugar the body uses for energy. Certain special cells (epithelial cells) on the surface of the intestine are not available to assist in this digestive process. Symptoms of FM include, but are not limited to: gas, bloating, stomach pains/cramps, diarrhea, constipation, aching eyes, fuzzy head (brain fog), fatigue, low iron or other nutrient deficiencies, as well as mood disturbances and depression. FM is diagnoses by a breath hydrogen test. There is no cure for FM, treatment involves limiting ones diet to lower levels of fructose.
We offer a variety of information and different takes on FM, realizing that everyones tolerance and intake will be different. We are here to help you gather information and be better informed to make the best decision for your situation. Since FM affects all of us very differently we hope to be able to help each other cope, but remind everyone to use their own discretion as what works for one person may not work for the other.
Please visit the Links and Files Pages to gather information that may help you be better informed about FM.
