Re: [friendsforlifefoundation] Re: Chemotherapy treatments

Hi Deb,
It's Maria.  I have been going to MSK for 5 yrs. now and I can tell you that your friends is in good hands.  I have seen Dr. Berger only once, which was recently because my oncologist was away.  He was very thorough and caring.  I have not seen Dr. Lee but over the years I have seen many doctors there and it is a very good place to be.  How are you doing?  Are you coming to brunch on Sunday?  Can you get the word out about our kids lazertag "fun"raiser on Sunday?  Do you need anything?  Stay well.
Maria

I have a question from a friend at work. She was diagnosed with breast cancer over 25 years ago and had a mastectomy. Recently, she became the 1% who can get in back on their chest wall. She had the lump removed at Memorial in the city. Because of her age, it is difficult to go back and forth into the city. She has to see a Dr. Berger and a Dr. Lee at Memorial here in Commack . I told her I would check to see if anyone has seen these doctors and what their experience was.

As always, thank you for your time and expertise.

Debbie

My name is Wendie.  I also had a bilateral mastecomy, but I was stage 3a and had 10 nodes positive. I did ac and taxol.  I also felt do whatever  you have to, I have 4 girls to be there for.  I will tell you that I shaved my head at the first sign of hair loss and that was the best thing I ever did.  It really aleviated the anxiety of the slow loss.  A positive attitude is the biggest part of recovery.  Good luck.

have the AC-T regimen of chemo followed by Tomaxafin. When she discussed
the side affects, i was very upset about the hair loss. She called me
again on friday after she discussed my case with other oncologists and
they determined that i also am a candidate for the CMF regimen. they
said there is a 2-3% difference in the two treatments of the cancer
matastasizing. They said the decision is up to me. So now i am really
confused! If any one would share their experiences or has any advice, i
would really appreciate it. i had stage 1 breast cancer, i had a
bilateral mastectomy, no lymph node invasion the tumor was 1.5 cm. but
was a grade 3 tumor. I am also 33 yrs. of age. Any thoughts, advice, or
experiences shared would be helpful. Thank you all Monica.

Hi, Monica my name is Cheryl. I had a very similar situation to you.
The hair loss was very traumatic i agree. It is a very personal
decision about the chemo. I felt I wanted to do all I could to beat the
cancer. I wound up with cytoxan and taxotere. It wasnt fun but almost 3
years later I am glad I did it. I was 40 years old at the time with 3
kids. I also had a bilateral mast. with reconstruction. Feel free to
call. 516-435-7096. The hair does come back and if you are a hair
color nut as I am, you get brand new virgin hair to dye anyway you
want!
