hi monica my name is lori. I also had a bilateral masectomy with reconstruction last year. I finished my chemo and radiation in march. I had lymphnodes affected. I was stage 2 cancer and my tumor was 4.0 cm. It is your decision about your treatment but please do not base this decision on cosmetic reasons. you want to be as agressive as you can with your treatment because you dont want the cancer back. hair will always grow back. I am still waiting for mine to finish growing in. I am happy with the decision that I made and if you need to talk my number is 516-622-1810. best of luck to you lori prince

Hi Monica- I understand how upsetting all this is to you...it's all so overwhelming. .but I will tell you, it does get better! I would want to know(if I were you) why the oncologist insisted on the ac-t at first and if you are a candidate for the less strong treatment, why she hadn't considered that initially? What is the "down side" of the CMF other then the few % points off? I am not sure about the tumor size and how that factors in, but the fact that you don't have any node involvement is great .....I personally opted for the AC-T, when given the 2 options and all the details at the time(5 years ago)...I knew the act would definitely cause hair loss, which is very scary and upsetting... and the other might or might not...but I didn't ever want to go thru the chemo again and I wanted TO GET THE STRONGEST POSSIBLE TO ENSURE THAT AS BEST AS THEY COULD....BUT IT IS SUCH A PERSONAL
CHOICE.(Sorry about the caps!) I guess because you are so young they are treating you with a strong regimen...you don't want to give cancer any openings to creep back....but see what others have experienced. I am not sorry I went with the strongest treatment possible..but that is such a personal decision. I wish you well and stay strong! Glad you are checking in on our message board..I'm sure you will hear from others shortly! Hugs, Joani
Hi FFL ladies. This is Monica, and I need some advice. I saw my oncologist on monday (at MSKCC Commack). At that visit she insisted i have the AC-T regimen of chemo followed by Tomaxafin. When she discussed the side affects, i was very upset about the hair loss. She called me again on friday after she discussed my case with other oncologists and they determined that i also am a candidate for the CMF regimen. they said there is a 2-3% difference in the two treatments of the cancer matastasizing. They said the decision is up to me. So now i am really confused! If any one would share their experiences or has any advice, i would really appreciate it. i had stage 1 breast cancer, i had a bilateral mastectomy, no lymph node invasion the tumor was 1.5 cm. but was a grade 3 tumor. I am also 33 yrs. of age. Any thoughts, advice, or experiences shared would be helpful. Thank you all
Monica.
