Good copper-free multivitamin?   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #37451 of 41551 |
Hi - I'm having trouble finding a good multivitamin that is copper-free (I
realize that iron is also a potential "toxin" to mercury-toxic people - but I
have iron-deficiency anemia...so I'm in the difficult position of *needing*
something that is toxic). I really don't like a lot of multivitamins that are
out there, period - because they seem to go overboard with adding all of this
"extra stuff" (some even have alpha-lipoic acid added to them). I always find
something "wrong" with a multivitamin that I'm considering - such as vitamin C
being in the "wrong" form, or there being too much calcium/magnesium...or other
nutrients being in the wrong form (I want to avoid kelp, since I've read that a
lot of kelp is contaminated w/ mercury and/or arsenic).

I'm just wondering if there is a multi out there that is copper-free (it could
be iron-free too - and I would just have to take an iron supplement) - that has
vitamin C in a mineral-ascorbate form (or not too much ascorbic acid); that has
other nutrients in good, absorbable forms; and doesn't overdo it in adding an
exhorbitant amount of extra stuff.

The multivitamin that I've been using for the past few years is Natrol's "My
Favorite Multiple" (the one-a-day formula). True to its name, it has literally
been "my favorite multiple" for a variety of reasons. It has good amounts of
nutrients in good, bioavailable forms; it has its vitamin C in my preferred
mineral-ascorbate form; it has extra stuff, but doesn't go overboard with it;
and the company goes very light on the amount of calcium and magnesium that's
added to the multi - giving you the option of taking cal/mag supplements
separately (it's better to take cal/mag supplements separately because too much
calcium/magnesium taken along with other minerals can hinder absorption of these
other minerals).

The problem is that it has 100% of the RDA of copper in it - even the
"iron-free" formula of this multiple has copper in it. So far, I've decided to
stick with this multi anyway - because it seems "the best fit" for me in so many
other ways. And I haven't found another multi that I would prefer (even the
iron/copper-free versions) - because of the above-mentioned reasons.

Here is the nutritional information for "My Favorite Multiple":

But has anyone found a copper-free multivitamin that you like? Maybe there is a
good copper-free multi out there that I just haven't discovered yet.
