They did not take tequin off the market. The manufacturer simply ceased production. It will remain available until all current supplies are exhausted. Which may take years.
They won't take the others off the market because they are cash cows. Billions of dollars worth of revenue would be lost. The move by the manufacturers of tequin was a strategic one due to ongoing lawsuits in my opinion. Voluntarily stopping production scores a lot of points in their favor in front of a jury. Having the drug recalled by the regulatory agencies like the FDA however does not. Makes them look like the fools that they are and creates a lot of sympathy for the victim. By stopping production they can claim that they reacted immediately to protect the patients. Being forced to do so however proves the exact opposite.

That is so sad. :( That drug was too powerful for her body and extremely toxic. Didn't they take Tequin off of the market? And if so...why would they not take the others off if they are in the same class??

Hey, Guys.. I set up a Facebook group called Fluoroquinolone Toxicity Group. I was surprised to find the following post from Jack's niece, Judy. See below her story and the sad, tragic story of her friend, also named Judy.
"Judy McKay Lowry ( Springfield , MO ) wrote
at 4:14pm yesterday In memory of my friend Judy who had a stroke 30 minutes after taking Tequin and then died the next day.I didn't know anything about this so I asked her what happened and she replied with the following. I include it here with her permission." yes'm. It was just one of those very strange coincidences. I happened to be driving by her street and happened to look down it and saw an ambulance parked in front of a house that I thought might be Judys' so I turned down it and sure enough....I went on in and they already had her ready to go on a stretcher, sitting up though, and couldn't talk. She looked exactly like a stroke victim. Her husband sd 30 mintutes prior, she had taken tequin, perscribed by the doctor she had just visited. She hadn't gone to the dr. in years. I freaked, because I had been put on Tequin for upper respiratory and while I was taking it, I had the weirdest things going on with me. I remember sitting at my makeup table, looking down at the item I wanted to pick up, and wondered if I could get my hand to move to the item and actually pick it up! That kind of thing. Things that you NE VER think about, things that are automatic, I couldn't do. Do you understand what I mean? Anyway, I followed the ambulance to the hospital (had another girlfriend with me) and I told the nurse that was doing her chart, that she had taken the tequin, and I also told her what I went through with that drug, and she sd that she would document it. I felt relieved that she took what I sd seriously. Anyway, Judy kept going down hill, they transported her down to Joplin Mo and she died there the next day. I still see her looking at me in the ER, when I was getting ready to leave, telling her to make sure she did what the docs told her to do and she gave me that "whatever" look, and I scowled at her, and we smiled at each other. (as best she could) Never dreaming that that would be the last time I would see her. But thankful for ever that I just happened to be driving by.......... ..I do believe.Today at 1:15pmMy doctor has in my records that I will not take any drug from the Fluoroquinolone family.
BMS recently announced its plans to halt production and sales of Tequin®. In February of 2006, the Food and Drug Administration added side effect warnings to Tequin® labeling to inform consumers about the serious blood sugar risks posed by the drug.

These damned drugs effect more people than we ever know! Thank God my niece wasn't harmed more. But for her friend, this drug killed her. It just makes me sick.Sally
