It was Kanner who coined the term "refrigerator mom."
I was just being silly as well as being pissed off.
Those women have been attacking me personally. The
mothers are so uptight they ASSUME that anyone who
mentions trauma is backing some provisional hypothesis
that Bettelheim tossed out. They are so uptight about
it, it makes you suspect they have guilty consciences.
The lady doth protest too much methinks.
Anyway, Kanner noticed that many mothers of autistic
children are cold. It was a simple observation.
There was no formal theory proposed for this, much
less tested, by anyone. And that includes Bettelheim.
See if I'm wrong. Go out there into the fray and see
what happens if you mention neglect--or even simple
trauma. They will want to kill you.
Yours,
Larry
