Well, I did pay for the test myself because at the time I was at my wit's end.You are right
the test is extremely expensive. My test was in excess of $500.00. But it has made a difference.
The doctors in my area have not heard of test. I did have the prick test that picked up different allergies.
Pinpointing the food allergies made the difference with me. OTC and anti-histamines did not work for me
because I was eating all of my reactive foods all the time. I walked around with hives and rashes over my
face and body for over 8 months without any relief. All of my symptons went away temporarily when I went on
a fast. So I knew it had to be food related. Even the allergy medicine I have been prescribed do not work now if
I eat a reactive food. It is difficult giving up the foods you eat everyday after you receive your results. To me
it was worth every dime to pay for the test. I wish I could afford to have the comprehensive test for $1000.00. My
doctor would not write an order for the test so that is why I had to pay for it.

I haven't taken the ALCAT yet because I haven't convinced my doctor of its benefits. The allergist actually told me that the ALCAT is exactly the same thing as a prick test -- as if Im stupid. Lets see... the prick test for allergies to mouse droppings and grass and the Alcat checks for allergies to food. Hmmm... yep, he's right. No difference.
My regular doctor won't prescribe the test, he said to talk to my allergist. Of course my regular doctor didn't know that cinnamon helps level out sugar levels. Which I thought was pretty common knowledge.
So... it's the difference between paying $250 for a test or a $15 co-pay for the blood draw. I still haven't convinced myself to pay the extra money. I have had nasal congestion and post nasal drip for as long as I can remember. I've tried all sorts of nasal spray, including hot pepper spray. I've tried allergy medicine-- both prescribed and OTC and anti-histamines, all with no relief.

It has been very difficult adjusting to a new way of life and eating. I am still not sure how to deal with gliadin or gluten. Any suggestions?

It's my understanding that the severe list is usually things that we eat daily. Oftentimes foods with a severe reaction are things that we crave.

I have found it very difficult with my allergies. Unfortunately all of the things I eat is on my severe
and moderate list. The best thing that has come out of it is all of my hives went away after
I stopped eating those items. Hope things work out for you.

Hi everyone,
I have fibromyalgia and have also struggled with depression. My
naturopath recommended the ALCAT test, and I've heard good things
and believe the effort will be worth it. However, I just got my
results and am rather overwhelmed.
SEVERE (red): apples, garlic, mushrooms, peanuts, pork, saffron,
salmon, soybean, tuna
Moderate (orange): anise, barley, bass, beet, brewer's yeast,
broccoli, catfish, cauliflower, cinnamon, coriander, cow's milk,
egg white, lentils, macadamia, oregano, paprika, rye, scallops,
walnut, watercress I also have amoderate reaction to quite a few
food colorings, MSG, polysorbate- 80, potassium nitrite, and
fluoride. I also have fifty foods on the mild list.
I don't mean to bore you all, but part (the reason I'm sharing
this much info with you all is because those of you with multiple
sensitivities know how challenging it is to find suitable foods.
My problem is compounded by the fact that I have been totally
blind since birth which leaves me unable to independently read
labels. Unfortunately, I don't have a lot of support, so I was
hoping some of you might have helpful suggestions since you've
all had to learn to read labels carefully. Perhaps some of you
with multiple sensitivities might be able to check labels for me
on some of the productsy use.
I look forward to any suggestions and hopefully I can be of some
assistance and encouragement to others as well.
