Hi Wyndie. ok, I got this info off the
holistichealth.com discussion group from old posts
made by Dr. Amy Yasko. Zinc can be like a double edge
sword and if in excess will cause glutamate release.
(Glutamate is a big no no for our kids. It causes
neurological inflammation. Dairy and gluten and MSG
are all very high glutamate. You probably already
know this.) Another bit I found that Dr. Yasko wrote:
"I like to keep zinc
supplementation between 15 and 40. The level of zinc
added is dependent on
the zinc/copper ratio that I see on a urine essential
test. If both zinc
and copper are elevated, I would look to decrease
copper with molybdenum
and EDTA and carnosine.(you may need to go a bit
higher on the molybdenum
for a short while to decrease the copper) Then I would
look to decrease
zinc so that copper is in low range normal (still in
green but to the left
of the line)and zinc is in the green to the right of
the line."
And here's another:
"I would also look closely at any calcium he may be
taking. Read labels and
see if calcium or glutamate is an ingredient. The
calcium and glutamate
will work in conjunction with zinc in a number of
different ways. The zinc
will block excess calcium into the NMDA type glutamate
receptors. If you
go to a high level of zinc it will stimulate the AMPA
type. So you will
want to eliminate calcium and glutamate (also other
excitotoxins such as
aspartate, aspartame, glutamic acid...)."
OK, so Wyndie, have you ever tried Molybdenum? I ask
because it has been one of those huge wows for us.
There is a British company that sells one, Ionic
Molybdenum by Metabolics, that is completely allergen
free. It's like taking 10 baby drops of water.
Anyway, apparently there are other ways to get zinc
levels up and copper down. I started out buying this
from Michael Payne in VA but now I found another
source. If you are interested let me know and I can
get you some.
Hope you have a great day today! Stay in touch.
Hugs,
Jenny
