Wyndie (and any other moms experienced with the Total Elimination Diet, or elimination diets in general),
I'd like to ask your help with Olivia's elimination diet, if you have a chance. I'm not that experienced with elimination diets for toddlers eating solid foods, and I want to make sure her daughter is getting enough nutrition, especially calories and carbs. Thankfully her little girl is still nursing, but a Total Elimination Diet that involves both a nursing mom and a solids-eating kid is a more complicated undertaking than just a mom with a nursing infant who's not on solids yet.
I'm thinking that a next step that makes sense, once Olivia's little girl is symptom-free, is to add in some high-calorie but low-disaccharide vegetables, like winter squashes (butternut, acorn, pumpkin), and perhaps celery root and rutabagas or turnip. Right now I can't really determine if her problems are primarily due to gut dysbiosis or to food sensitivities, so I'd be reluctant, like Olivia is, to add in too many fruits or grains. When Tom was little and we did SCD, we couldn't use nuts, and we probably overdid it on the fruits too, in our desire to maintain adequate calories, but these root vegetables helped us achieve a nice balance between an SCD diet and a low-allergy diet.
In terms of supplements, I think that Olivia should prioritize adding in some Omega oils, probably DHA, and soon. Our best luck with low-allergen Omegas has been Jarrow's krill oil, which although it's a crustacean, has no added ingredients. Most Omega oils have soy, or come from a high-allergen fish like cod or sardines. Does anybody have any thoughts on this?
On behalf of Olivia and her little girl, thanks in advance, and I hope everyone is having a nice winter!
Suzanne

Hello all, I'm just embarking on the TED with my two year old (still breastfeeding) daughter. Suzanne has been very helpful in getting us started, but I was wondering if any of you might be able to mentor me a bit, share your experiences?
As a little bit of background - I'm a biomed Mom of three girls, our first, now 8, was diagnosed with developmental delay, and more recently, an endocrine disorder. Our second daughter has a moderate peanut allergy. Our third, unvaccinated, has had chronic loose stools for more than 6 months, and more recently, worsening eczema. We did IgG allergy testing and came up with soy and peanut. My mission at the moment is to figure our what other foods are problematic for her, hence the TED.
We've started with chicken, beef, and lamb, millet and rice, cooked carrot, beet, broccoli, pears and blueberries. We had one good stool last Sunday, and then I cheated, and I also think she od'd on the fruit. So the last several stools have been bad again. I've removed blueberries and poached pear for myself and haven't given her any fruit today.
I've also taken both of us off all supps, and so there is concern that we're not getting proper nutrition. I have Neocate but am afraid to use it until we see some improvement. So far I've been unable to find truly hypoallergenic supplements.
