No not off the wall at all. My son has white coat syndrome too. When I went to
the dermatologist, he didn't take my blood pressure. I am not saying that yours
won't. The way I help my son get through it is to get him to feed himself
positive affirmations. "This won't take long" "It will be over with soon" "I
can and will get through this okay" Also just before going in take deep breaths
in through your nose and out through your mouth. It is called deep breathing
and it helps you to relax. It is a very good idea to bring something to read.
Something you can get totally absorbed in. The mind can be easily distracted
this way. And before you know it, you are done and out of there. I hope all
goes well with your appointment.

Subject: [fight together] visiting dermatologist
I know this seems like an 'off the wall' question here, but here
goes anyway --
Never been to a dermatologist, but I have a heavy duty doctor
phobia. Along with that, when my blood pressure is measured, 'white
coat syndrome' kicks in. Meaning, that at a doctor's office it
measures higher than it normally is. In fact, I was told on my last
doctor visit a year or so ago to monitor at home and there it is
within normal range.
So to make a long question short -- do dermatologists do the whole
doctor thing -- will my pressure be taken? will I need to undress
and wear a gown? do they check heart and pulse and all that?
My phobia is easier to handle if I know what to expect. My visit is
for a small rough patch on my forehead.
thanks for any info.
