PLEASE . . . DON'T TRY TO GET YOUR VITAMIN D FROM THE SUN
The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) is deeply concerned that recent
reports linking the health benefits of vitamin D to unprotected sun exposure
mislead the public about the very real dangers of sun exposure, the leading
cause of skin cancer. The number of people diagnosed with skin cancer continues
to rise. In 2003, more than one million new cases are expected to be diagnosed
in the United States alone, and approximately one person every hour will die
from melanoma—the most serious form of skin cancer. To find out more
about the importance of sun safety and how dermatologists recommend you get your
Vitamin D, read Vitamin D + Sunshine = Bad Medicine.
