Prostate Cancer, Hormone Therapy and Melatonin   Message List

You may recall, that around 18 months ago a good friend with advanced spinal
mets from prostate cancer was about to change hormone therapy and was having
trouble sleeping. I suggested he talked with his oncologist about melatonin
- I bought mine from www.iherb.com <http://www.iherb.com/> and bought 1mg
tablets. I occasionally take these, particularly when I have fear of the
cancer or have stress. I find it helps me sleep better - better quality
sleep.

I suggested melatonin when I started IL2 for malignant melanoma - I had
heard it had a positive impact on an interferon study in the USA. Melatonin
is obtainable in the USA but not here in the UK. Whether it helped me
survive a prognosis of six months (that was nearly 5 years ago) - who knows?

But it did help my friend who was taking hormone treatment for his prostate
cancer - not just to sleep better - but he also cleared his spinal tumour.
Sadly he died recently of a new primary in his brain - not prostate cancer
at all.

I tell you this because - if you are having immunology - talk about
melatonin with your oncologist. If you are having trouble sleeping with
hormone therapy - ask your oncologist. I recommend this course of action.

PS a couple of other hugely helpful 'tips' that came from non-medical
sources:

Whilst on chemo I began to have progressively bad indigestion after each
chemo round - indeed it was so bad I was considering ceasing a therapy that
seemed to be sorking. I was taking lanzoprazole once a day at the time - an
internet friend suggested I speak to my doctor - he suggested I took two
each day (one in the morning and one at night) - I managed three further
chemo rounds and much more comfortably.

Also whilst on chemo I began to get a sore throat - the doctors prescribed
anti-biotics that did no good. An internet friend suggested it may be fungal
and that occasional yoghurt may help - it did help.

Good luck - go make your own luck

:-)
