My name is Anne and I am 52. In July 2006 I had an SCC on the left side
of my nose. I was sent to a dermatologist who sent me to an ENT. I had
to go 4 separate times before the pathology report came back clean
margins. I had a hole straight thru my nose so they did a paramedian
forehead flap. Two weeks after surgery the SCC came back. I was then
sent to a radiation oncologist who ordered an MRI. In mid October I
found out it had metastasized into the left side of my face. I had to
have most of the left side of my nose removed. Also 5 cm of bone and
flesh, the maxillary sinus, and the infraorbital nerve all the way back
to the base of my brain. Since then I have had several reconstruction
surgeries and radiation. The radiation deteriorated a spot next to my
nose and I have a hole. I am going in next Tuesday to have that
repaired. I am still not done with the reconstruction process. It has
been an experience. I joined this board to just have others to talk to
who may have gone thru this or to maybe help someone starting this
journey.
