there have been a number of attempts to join this group recently that I
have rejected - simply because the applicant did not make any statement
(which is requested) to show why they wish into this group - plus often
the email address itself indicates the applicant is probably a spammer.

I do not like to reject applicants - but do this for the benefit of all
in the group
