Subject: [fight together] New to group - Acral Lentiginous Melanoma?

Hello, everyone -

I see the doctor tomorrow about a small, extremely black,
irregularily bordered, raised, rough lesion on the bottom of my foot
(yup, almost all the symptoms are there). I have lived in sunny Las
Vegas all of my life and was a devoted sun worshiper in my teens and
early twenties (I'm 45 years old now). I have had numerous, severe,
blistering sunburns throughout my life and rarely wore sunscreen
because it might "prevent me from tanning." I'm fair skinned with
blue eyes (as if I would actually tan, anyway!), and have already
had several pre-malignant lesions removed from my back and my arms.
To tops things off, I've already had cancer (thyroid) that was
treated with massive whole body radiation, and I imagine I'm a bit
more prone to developing future cancers. As you can see, I have
many, many stikes against me and I'm pretty sure this lesion is what
I think it may be.

Have any of you had this type of melanoma, and if so, how was it
treated? My lesion appears to be about 2mm (very small yet) but it
may have begun vertical growth because it is beginning to raise up.
I noticed the spot about 4-5 weeks ago and originally thought it was
a dried blood blister.

I'd appreciate any advice or information you can give me about
melanoma and it's treatment.

Christy
