The trip started out with a rough lake and my cell phone falling in
the water. I was SO looking forward to having communications for this
trip.
Lake Erie is a very large lake. There are places where you can't see
land in any direction. I don't venture very far from shore. To be
honest I can't wait to get off the lake and on the Erie Canal.
The second day I tried to get silver ware, propane, and a can opener.
(items I forgot to bring) I had no luck. By the end of the day my
combos and raisins were about gone.
The second night I stopped just short of the Perry, Ohio Nuclear
power plant Just before stopping patrolling the shore line for a nice
spot I seen several bowling ball size objects moving around the
shore. It took me a second to realize they were raccoons eating the
dead fish that washed upon shore. There were quite a few nasty
smelling dead fish along that part of the shore. I camped about one
hundred yards from the raccoons.
So far every night I have slept in my canoe. I pop the seat out throw
down my sleeping bag That night my knife was in hand just in case a
nosey raccoon decided to crawl into my canoe. There was no coon in my
canoe when I awoke, but there was a heavy dew that covered my
sleeping bag.
The water was very calm and warm. My quest for propane, silverware,
and a can opener started again for a second day. Marinias on Lake
Erie don't have what I need Around 3:30p.m I needed calories and was
out of snack foods with only canned and pastas foods left.. My lunch
was Inn Maid noodles cooked over a fire I put my hand in a zip lock
bag and grabbed the noodles out of the pan to get my calories. This
is not normally how things are going to be, but sometimes you have to
make sacrifices
You might wonder where my canoe and gear are if I am in the library
sending this update? I got lucky because I docked my canoe right next
to the coast guard office. After sending this update I am going to
call sprint to see about a phone, stock up at the store talk with the
coast guard, and call the newspaper. I could of called them from the
river if only I had my cell phone
Until next time
