Hi Everyone,
You may have noticed in the MSIF update I posted today that there was one news article about MS and glutan sensitivity. It's about time the MSIF have printed information on this as it has been known for years that MS patients are best to avoid glutan. The article is below again for reading if your interested.
The Best Bet Diet which was set up by the Multiple Sclerosis Resource Centre in the UK supports Ashton Embrys research on Diet. Infact AShton was in the UK the last few weeks doing lectures in London, Lancashire and other places which were attended by Neurologists and other medical professioanls aswell as MS Patients. The feedback from the lectures is very good and so many MSer's found the infomraton so helpful. many progessioanls also supported Ashton's research. All Ashton's articles can be read here http://www.direct-ms.org Still there is alot of funding needed to help go ahead with trials and personally I can't wait till the day these trials will be done because I truelly believe Diet is so importnat for everyone with MS. If you read all the information available at Ashton's charity site Direct MS and the Diet Group site and study them hard and give it at least a try for six months, I bet you'll never look back and you'll realise that this is THE Best Bet Diet. It takes alot of work, reading and studying it but it's needed to understand what's really happening in MS and it keeps you motivated to stay on the diet. I receive alot of emails from people who visit my personal MS Site and read about the Best Bet Diet and who go off and study it and report back to me after a few months saying how well they are doing. No matter whether you're taking Copaxone, Avonex, Betaseron, LDN or whatever , your diet is the most important and I know myself it is the Best Bet Diet that has slowed my progression and given me a better quality of life. When MS first appeared for me in 2000 I was fast becoming very ill and it wasn't until 2003 I started the BBD and it's helped me regain alot of weakness I had aswell as slowing things down in the long run.
I don't often write mails like this and to be honest alot of the time I give up giving out information on Diet as I sometimes get replies from people saying diet is nonsense it can't help MS and who are very nasty towards me. Generally speaking those who say these things are the people who just won't go away and read the information, or else they do but they don't understand it and are unwilling to understand it. Others are just negative people and too lazy to try something that's natural and very important.
Please if you read this mail give it a read at the very least, you have nothing to loose by changing your diet and more than likely have alot to gain!!!
Best Wishes and Happy BBDing
Edwina
Multiple sclerosis and occult gluten sensitivity.
--------------------
Two atypical patients with a MS-like illness and evidence of occult celiac
disease (CD) were diagnosed by the authors. This prompted screening of a
further 49 unselected MS cases for serologic evidence of CD. Findings
suggested that anti-gliadin antibody (especially IgG isotype) can be a
nonspecific finding in MS.
