Dear List(s),
Thanks Cyn again for this recent story.
The "professor" can speak from his own experience but if this is the
case and we are just removing illegal from the streets then why
continually target physicians; individuals (and yes I am prejudicial here)
who have gone to great expense and hard work to practice a profession
that requires knowledge, intellect, integrity, and that DOES NOT MAKE
money on street level drug deals, sorry does not wash!!
I am told physicians to "be" meaning medical school graduates are
being advised to stay clear of those with NIP; to not practice PM as
a specialty and in the meantime told by my own Dr. H. that 4 years
ago we had 30,000 practicing the profession; now 4,000 are left. No
my friends they are not all in jail (jesus can you imagine having to
line up with the inmates to get your meds?) but many have just ended
this association; a point in check is my secondary PM specialists at
Baylor/Methodist he laughingly told me last month "I'm getting out of
the narcotics business" but unlike my primary he never had us do
medication records, and he practiced medicine very judiciously and
humanely UNTIL NOW for now he's going to base his practice on
"blocks" and the like the very procedures that cost a fortune, spread
intractable pain like RSD and do not ever effect a cure...
We need help from our President and First Lady and with that in
mind I will ask all here (for Cyn is willing to work on this with me
and for that I am very grateful) to begin a process of writing their
pain story. Yes you may have done this before; I ask you to do it
again for we will first approach this from a cover letter both for Mr.
Bush and Mrs. Bush, and with that in mind (I'm out in Midland their
home turf and I know how good hearted West Texans truly are)
explain what we see going on in America right now. Believe it or
not you cannot blame the President for the DEA; if one agency
gets on a roll (does not matter which one either) and marks money
and media it becomes a blueprint. That's politics and deep down
WE as a group have a chance to make a difference; to be willing
to tell our story, to do it politely without anger, to not focus on
our WAR STORY or POOR ME but on the good citizens we are,
some of us have returned to work due to pain management, many
of us cost society LESS due to this...So you get my message and
I am long-winded but somehow WE as a group still must make
a difference.
I've asked Cyn to draft a letter she'd like to present to the
President and one for Laura; I will do the same. We can take the
best of our letters, combine forces, and present some of the
stories that ya'll have shared with us. We are not begging for
mercy we are standing up to show the government that we ARE
normal people with pain management, and we are close to
death without it. Along with that the research that shows
opioids are SAFE for control of NIP.
So yes another hypothesizer hits the media...Well well I
wonder when the last time this good ole boy in "the armpit
of America" sorry I have residence there too, wrote a class
2? Yep I think not...
Peace, please put your thinking caps on!!

Prescriptions for pain get closer scrutiny in Louisiana

Prescriptions for pain pills -- and the doctors who issue them -- are
getting closer scrutiny in Louisiana.
Just weeks after one Baton Rouge physician admitted writing illegal
prescriptions and another was arrested, federal and local law-
enforcement authorities say they are investigating more such cases in
the community.
At the same time, state regulatory agencies are developing a database
to track prescriptions -- making it easier to investigate physicians
and identify patients who may be "doctor shopping," or getting
medicine from multiple physicians and pharmacies.
And next month, a new law sets criminal penalties for any doctor,
nurse or other health-care provider who writes a fake prescription or
helps someone get one.
"It's been troubling issue in health care for a number of years and
it seems to be getting worse," said F. Lamar Pritchard, dean of the
University of Louisiana at Monroe School of Pharmacy. "A lot of
legitimate physicians may be skeptical of this and feel like Big
Brother is now watching, but that's not the intent at all. The intent
is to move illegal drugs off the street."
