Sadly, we’re in New Zealand and we only have the
choice of the solution (in a sodium bicarb base – so really bitter!) or
the capsules which you have to open and scatter on his food. They taint the
taste of the food and he stopped eating bananas (I’d hollow out a bit and
put it in and reseal it), he stopped eating pureed fruit, he stopped eating
cornflakes and even stopped eating bread after I used the soft part to make a
ball around the granules! He still won’t eat purees or bananas since all
of that.
We’re currently mixing the 5mls of
solution (10mg med) with about 6mls of fruit juice in a syringe. He was
reasonably compliant this morning – although we’re still not giving
him much choice in the matter as one holds him down and the other squirts it
in!
I sooo wish we could get the solutabs but
have discovered that if you import medications which are not on the official
list then they will get stopped at the border and sent back – and you get
hit with a whopping fine. I asked my brother who works with the Ministry of
Health if there was any way round it since the DRUG is on the list, just not in
that form but apparently not.

Update
Hi Eleanor,
You might want to try Prevacid solutabs instead of the Prilosec. They
work the same way, but the Prevacid solutabs are MUCH better tasting.
They are a little tablet that you dissolve in water and it has a sweet
taste. Much easier to get down!
Best of luck!
Robin
