Hello everyone. I'm so glad I found this site. Today was my first day and I ate
pretty much my whole 5 hours. I'm not about to explode but I know I definitely
ate a bit of food. So, are we supposed to eat the whole 5 hours or are we
supposed to eat according to hunger? I'm afraid about metabolism slowing if I
don't eat enough. Any suggestions or tips please...
Welcome to the group!
You'll find the answer to your question (which is "eat according to appetite")
and answers to questions you don't have yet but probably will at these
locations:
Reading the book should help you understand how Fast-5 works. The more you know,
the better you can adapt it to fit well into your life. For example, the eating
window does not have to be from 5-10pm -- it can be any period of five
consecutive hours.
As far as metabolism goes, if your boost your metabolism by keeping your body
busy storing groceries, that kind of defeats the purpose because your body will
inevitably store more calories than it burns digesting them (unless you eat only
celery.) The key is to eat less than your body needs so it burns the excess
already stored. Fast-5 helps do that by getting the appetite right for slow,
steady weight loss and leads to a lifestyle approach to simple weight
maintenance.
It may take a few weeks to get to the slow, steady weight loss, a time during
which you may have compensatory overeating, but that's ok if it's just a
transient phase that gets you where you want to be. (That's in the book too).
Best wishes,
Bert

Don't worry, most people do this when they start. However you'll soon settle down into what's right for you. Your appetite will decline but I wouldn't worry about your metabolism slowing. I never found that. Nowadays I just eat what I like within my window. Some days that's just one meal, somedays it's two and somedays it's one and a nibble.
I'm no longer trying to lose weight. I was about 190 pounds when I started and I'm now about 112 but I like this way of eating so much that I really don't want to give it up. I'm just trying to stay the weight I am.
Thanks Kirsteen, Wow congrats on the wight loss. You know it's so hard to try
something like this when all you've been hearing is "eat every 3 hours, or your
body goes into starvation mode and your metabolism crashes". I'm so glad to
hear that that is not the case. Thanks

Kirsteen,
I'm at about the same place you were when you started. I am at about 185 and saw
your post. Congrats on your success! Would you share what your typical meal
might be and also what you do for exercise?? I know it's a long road ahead for
me and seeing your post is very inspiring!! How long have you been on the
Fast-5??
At the present, I try to break my fast with a raw veggie or an apple to take the
"edge off" the appetite before having a meal and then am working on making that
meal a healthy one. Exercise has been a problem due to arthritis, but I want to
add some stationary bike once I have mastered the transition phase.
I'm sure it's been awhile since your early days starting out, but any advice,
comments, tips would be wonderful!
Many thanks in advance,
Susie
