Hello FACES people!  I wanted to let you know of these amazing guys who are rowing a BOAT all the way from FL and their destination is Sea Isle City, NJ.  They are doing this to raise money for autism.  We are hoping to get as many families involved in celebrating this amazing feat.  I am trying to obtain additional information about the event when they land - I beleive the date is Saturday August 1st - and when I get more information, I will pass it along to you.  Our parent support group is going to also be informed - but we are closer to Phili than we are to the shore, so I am hoping that I can convince families who are in the area to get involved - espcially when you read about them on their website.

Do you think you can spread the word among your group?
Let me know.  We are all in this together - we may be parts of separate groups, but we all have the same road, the same journey - and that is to continue to raise awareness and improve the lives of individuals with autism.
Thanks for listening.

Rocking the Boat for Autism
Group Rows Up the Atlantic Coast in Support of the Autism Society

Bethesda , MD (July , 2009) -- Five men are rowing up the east coast to make a difference in the lives of people affected by autism.
John Lose, Larry Maher, Dan McCann, James O'Donoghue and Ryan Meyer are “Rock the Boat for Autism” " a grassroots nonprofit with the aim of rowing from Boca Raton, Fla. to Sea Isle, N.J. this summer to raise $250,000 for autism. They are currently making their way up the South Carolina coast, about halfway through their trip.
The group of recen t college graduates has faced many challenges on the 1,500-mile journey they began June 13. The trek has been harder than they anticipated " they’ve been through bugs and bad weather, rowing 30-40 miles a day and even sleeping in the boats a few nights when there wasn’t a place to stay. But like the autism advocates they’re supporting, they’re not giving up.
“John Lose and his Rock the Boat team have been moved to support the autism community in a way uniquely suited to them,” said Autism Society President and CEO Lee Grossman. “We are touched by their enthusiasm.”
Rock the Boat benefits the Autism Society, the nation’s leading grassroots autism organization, which exists to improve the lives of all affected by autism. We do this by increasing public awareness about the day-to-day issues faced by people on the spectrum, advocating for appropriate services for individuals across the lifespan, and providing the latest information regarding treatment, education, research and advocacy.
Check out the rowers’ journal, learn more about Rock the Boat, or make a donation at www.rocktheboatforautism.org. Learn more about the Autism Society at www.autism-society.org, or find out how you can make a difference too at www.1power4autism.org.

About Autism:
Autism is a complex neurodevelopmental disability that typically appears during the first two years of life and affects a person’s ability to communicate and interact with others. Autism is defined by a certain set of behaviors and is a “spectrum disorder” that affects individuals differently and to varying degrees. There is no known single cause for autism, but increased awareness and funding can help families today.
