following workshop for Autism Awareness Month!

Take Control: Invest in Your Child

The First in a Special Needs Conference Series

Deciding what is best for your child can be a daunting task for any
parent, and even more so if your child has a special need. During
this one day conference participants will explore current topics with
experts from Interactive Kids, Mary's Place Pediatric Rehab,
Just2Moms, Hinkle, Fingles & Prior, and Faulkner Financial. Whether
you are taking your first step into understanding the world of
special education or have already begun to forge a path the
information presented will assist in making a smoother journey.

Conference Details
8:00-8:30 Registration

8:45- 10:00 Parenting 101: Managing Challenging Behaviors at Home-
Problem Behaviors can wreak havoc on family life and interfere with a
child's ability to be successful socially. This workshop will focus
on reviewing various techniques for increasing pro-social behavior
and reducing problematic behavior.

10:00-10:15 Break

10:15-11:45 Occupational and Speech Therapies: When School Services
Just Aren't Enough- In order to further enhance your child's speech
and motor skills alternative solutions can be found outside of your
school district. This workshop will discuss the benefits of private
therapy services. Your questions and concerns will be addressed at
the conclusion of this presentation.

11:45-1:00 Catered Lunch and Autism 411 for Parents and Peers - When
children and adults understand what Autism is and what the behaviors
may look like, fears are dispelled. And, that's key! Through their
experiences as moms of autistic children they share the roads they've
each taken to help you in your journey.

1:15-2:30 Navigating the IEP Process- A student's Individualized
Education Plan/Program ("IEP") must include measurable goals that are
designed to address the student's unique needs. Likewise, the student
needs to be afforded adequate instruction to ensure he or she makes
meaningful progress towards those goals. Learn the information you
need to make the most out of your child's next IEP.

2:30-3:15 Funding a Special Needs Trust- Many parents know the need
for a special needs trust, but most do not understand the
fundamentals and how to actually fund them. Learn the ins and outs of
special needs trusts, funding vehicles, tax consequences of certain
investments and choosing a trustee.

Early Bird Registration is $40 and the deadline is 2/28/09.
