I (unfortunately) am a past doctor at Eyeglass World. I'm posting to
let all present and past doctors associated with Eyeglass World as
independent contractors that you may be due a large sum of money. I
believed that these were illegal independent contractorships under the
federal tax code; therefore, I spent the last year exploring this. In
March of 2005, I received a ruling from the IRS that these
relationships indeed do not meet the criteria for independent
contractorships as by federal tax law. Therefore, I was refunded the
self-employment tax I had paid in along with accrued interest. It was
also noted in the ruling that Eyeglass World and it's owners would be
liable for the unpaid employment tax, federal unemployment tax, FICA,
etc. along with penalty and accrued interest. The more doctors that
file an SS-8 determination with the IRS, the more back tax and penalty
this company will have to repay. If you ever wanted a way to level
the playing field with Eyeglass World, this is one way---contact every
present and past doctor that you may have known with Eyeglass World
and give them their just due. Also, give the Musas their just dessert.
