This is my first post and I have posted this same message on the Gleevec and the
Colon Cancer Support group .... so please forgive me if you are members of those
groups too and this is redundant. But I am desperately looking for more options
for my 49 year old spouse.

I am new to the group so I'm still trying to figure out how to get my questions
answered and hook up with others who may know about Gleevec and it's uses with
Colon Cancer. I have posted this same email to the Gleevec Group...

It appears from some of the posts I have read that people are being given
Gleevec for this cancer outside of trials...??? If this is the case could
anyone who is taking this drug or has a relative taking for Colon cancer please
contact me..at wscoburn@... or sue_bee53@...

My spouse (age 49) has colon cancer dx. 5/2000... he has since had 3 surgeries
(hemicolectomy, radiofrequency ablation and surgical placement of an
intrahepatic pump at MSKCC). He was stage IV at dx... has taken
Irinotecan/5FU/leucovorin; trial of at MSKCC Oxaliplatin/5FU/leucovorin/FUDRin
intraheptic pump; gemcitabine/xeloda; xeloda alone; in OH trial of pan-erb
tyrosinese inhibitor CI-1033; is currently on a rescue therapy called BOF-Strep
(it appears to have stopped working on the lung mets)...

I have read that if you have a 'ckit positive' solid tumor/cancer that gleevec
may be an option.... We have travelled from from OH to NY since 11/2001 for
treatments because the OH doc basically gave up on us then.....

ANY help would be greatly appreciated...

Thank you,
Sue_bee53 (Wanda)

p.s. he is no longer eligible for trials because of oxygen use... he is still a
trooper though... even though it has been very difficult we just traveled from
OH to new york Friday... We are in NY now and have an oncology appt. with Dr.
Nancy Kemeny tomorrow afternoon... So any help before tomorrow a.m. would be
greatly appreciated.

Also, if you are wondering how he's holding up... until March he was doing
amazing.... even though he has had pleural effeusions drained from both lungs
wasn't on oxygen and was still active... although not working any longer... We
had a vacation planned in March when everything started going down hill.. The
rescue therapy helped but has now stopped working.
