Subject: Katrina Relief Project for Displaced Cancer Patients and Caregivers
Hurricane Katrina Relief Efforts
Cancer Consultants, Inc. and the Community Oncology Alliance Mobilize
Cancer Clinics to Treat Thousands of Hurricane Katrina Patients
September 6, 2005 - Dozens of cancer programs throughout Alabama,
Louisiana & Mississippi are closed due to the devastation of Hurricane Katrina.
A cooperative effort by The Community Oncology Alliance (COA) and
CancerConsultants.com has established a website www.katrinacancerhelp.com and
toll-free call center (888-912-9111) to assist thousands of cancer patients and
caregivers displaced by Hurricane Katrina.
The assistance will provide:
a.. An on line resource and a toll free phone number for placement
services for displaced patients to locate functioning oncology clinics in their
immediate area and to schedule appointments.
b.. A website designed to allow displaced caregivers to register their
current contact information to be shared with their colleagues providing interim
care for displaced cancer patients.
c.. An online registration for oncology clinics willing to provide care
and materials for displaced patients or for individuals to volunteer their
services to augment the efforts of their colleagues in the affected states.
Over 150 community-based cancer clinics in the southeast alone have
expressed their wiliness to care for patients currently living away from their
homes and medical care.
"The care and well-being of our patients is our top priority. The
community cancer clinics that have welcomed cancer patients displaced by
Hurricane Katrina truly tells the story of what community cancer care is all
about. We estimate that the care for thousands of cancer patients has been
disrupted. Many of these patients are on active chemotherapies and overdue for
treatment," said Leonard Kalman, MD President of COA "These newly created
resources will significantly help displaced cancer patients and relief agencies
quickly locate specialty care providers."
Dr. Charles Weaver, CEO of Cancer Consultants, Inc. stated: "I am very
pleased and proud that our employees volunteered to work throughout the Labor
Day weekend to develop this Internet application that will serve cancer patients
and providers displaced by Hurricane Katrina. Over 200 cancer physicians have
already contacted the Website to update their information and volunteer their
clinics' services to take care of patients displaced by Katrina."
Cancer Consultants, Inc., based in Ketchum, Idaho, builds custom Websites
and Internet applications and develops educational content and programs for use
by cancer patients, doctors and hospitals. Educational content on all aspects of
cancer care produced by Cancer Consultants is found in newsletters, HOPE, and
Women & Cancer magazine, www.cancerconsultants.com and distributed to hundreds
of leading online cancer destinations for oncology patients and professionals.
CCI maintains a database consisting of over 20,000 oncology professionals for
program implementation and the performance of both syndicated and custom market
research.
