My oncologist told me to eat meat at every meal and take a vitamin pill once a
day but find a vitamin that is low in vitamin K so it won't interfere with the
warfarin I take to ward off clots caused by my port and the chemo. And don't
get a vitamin that is loaded with more than the RDA for iron unless a Ferratin
test says that you need more iron. The extra iron only encourages colon cancer
to grow. Strength training exercises 3 times a week even when you don't feel
like it will boost energy levels and can increase survival time by 80 percent
(results of a South Korean study). I still go to work every day, have fun with
my family, and take a nap in the afternoon. We're sick...naps are allowed. For
the first year after surgery, it can be helpful to take 400 mg of Tagamet twice

but be sure to discuss this with your oncologist before taking it. He may want
to do a blood test to get a baseline for your liver function and then retest
liver function once a month or every other month.

Hello everyone,
I was just wondering if anybody could give me their opinion on
macrobiotics and the macrobiotic diet. I've seen information
indicating a link between macrobiotic diets and cancer survival but
obviously this hasn't been proven scientifically. Has anyone been
on this type of diet?
As a more general question, what are your general recommendations
for a cancer diet? From my (limited) research, it looks like low
sugar, low fat, little or no meat/dairy/animal products, moderate
fruit, high vegetables and grains is the way to go. Any comments?

Hello again,
My relative (stage IV colon cancer) is currently recovering from
surgery (colon resection) and has an appointment with an oncologist
next week. He's still very weak and I was wondering if anybody
could give us some advice as to how to boost his energy levels and
help prepare his body for chemo. Any specific foods he should be
eating?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I find diet is very tricky; I had done all the right things for years,
grains, veges low fat, little or no sugar and I still have colon cancer.
Also chemo affects how and what you eat; the nausea is debilitating; the
metallic taste in the mouth. I am finding that whatever I can eat, is
what I eat; and if it doesn't make me feel nauseuas or bloated. Keep an
open mind; the important thing is to eat something. It's a kind of pay
as you go thingl
