IV. My Time Management Tip: Top 5 Time Wasters
1. Interruptions
This is believed to be the number 1 time waster. If you are constantly being interupted by your colleagues, boss and subordinates, tell them you are busy right now and will be return to them at a specified time. Gradually, you will "train" them to respect your time.
2. Perfectionism
Do you think you can make things perfect? If no, forget about doing so. Remember the 20/80 Principle, 80% of your tasks can produce only 20% of the results. Trying to make these 80% tasks perfect is preventing you from focusing more time for the other more important 20% tasks.
3. Procrastination
Waiting until the last minute or otherwise putting things off tends to create a crisis or problems that may not otherwise exist. By not doing something you're procrastinating about, you also end up wasting considerable time worrying about how much you're procrastinating. Just do it.
4. Trying to do everything yourself
Because you think that you are the one who can do it best, so you try to do everything all by yourself. Even though this is true, but at the end of the day, you find yourself just completing a small portion of the works. Delegate some of your works.
5. Too sociable
Most of us love socializing. But if socializing takes up too much of your "work" time, you will end up getting little done. If this is your problem, I suggest you to limit your socializing during lunch hour and after work's time.
