II. Weekly Cut & Paste:

與愛默生(R.W.Emerson)同為超越主義運動

III. Keith's Point of View: Andy & Bill's Law

by Keith To

Recently I learned this interesting law from a magazine. This is

one of the 10 laws of the modern world. The origin of this was

from a computer conference in the 1990s. It went like this:

“What Andy giveth, Bill taketh away.” It meant that every time

Andy Grove (former CEO of Intel, one of the largest computer

chips producers) brought a new chip to market, Bill Gates

(former CEO of Microsoft) would upgrade his software and

used up all the new chip’s power.

This law is funny but there is deep truth there. Whenever

something comes up, if it is good, something will fully utilize

to cause a breakthrough. This law has two implications.

Firstly, you can make full use of any recent breakthrough in

supporting structure to create your own breakthrough. Open

your eye wide enough to search for breakthroughs in any related

fields of yours. Secondly, you can create breakthroughs by

producing your own breakthroughs in your supporting structures.

If you don’t take it, someone will!!!

V. My Personal Development Tips: Top 5 Coaching Skills
- Feedback

by Dr. Keith To

This is Part 2 of a series of my 5 top coaching skills.
In this series,

I will introduce you my 5 other coaching skills apart from listening

and questioning. No matter you want to be a coach or not, these

skills are useful when you try to help others to discover their own

answers and solutions to their problems.

My second skill is Feedback. Feedback is telling people what you

heard, without your intepretation and judgement. People sometimes

don't hear what they said. People sometimes don't aware of how

illogical are their statements.

Just feedback exactly what you heard from them, without adding

or deleting anything. Then ask them to elaborate. This will surely

help them to clarify their thinking.

Say something simple like "You said xxxxxxx, tell me more about

that." is already good enough.
