- I Did It My Way
This is Part 5 of my series on Mega-Trends which I mentioned
in this year's Annual Prediction Seminar. Around 20 years
ago, a Futurist, Ms Popcorn identified 10 potential trends. Nearly
all come ture. 5 of them are still very valid and affecting us till
now. These 5 trends become the first 5 of the 10 Mega-Trends
in my speech. Egonomics is the fifth of the series.
Be realistic, human being are selfish. (OK, at least most human
being are selfish!) People put themselves at the centre. People buy
what suit them most. People want to be different from others. If it is
tailor-made for them, it will be even better.
It will be too expensive to tailor-make every products. But there
are no more mass markets. Products are created for small groups
of people. Just go to the hair care section of any supermarket. You
can find more than 8 different types of Rejoice shampoo. Each is
catered for a special need of a small group of people. It is quite
difficult today to produce a service or product that can fit all.
This trend is going to continue.
Will this trend affecting you? How can you get something out of
this trend?
Remember this: Every trend is a threat to someone who
knows nothing about it. It is also a great opportunity if you
understand it.

- Encourage Learning

This is a series of my 5 top coaching skills. The most important
coaching skills are listening and asking questions. I will talk about
these two later in the future. In this series, I will introduce you my 5
other coaching skills apart from listening and questioning. No matter
you want to be a coach or not, these skills are useful when you try
to help others to discover their own answers and solutions to their
problems.
My first skill is Encouraging Learning. Coaching is about learning.
You are not going to tell them the answers. You encourage them to
find out by themselves. When they can find their own answer, they
learn. They can make use of what they learned when something
similar happens again in the future. We learn most from our lives.
Everything happened can teach us something. A coach is someone
who encourages others to learn from their lives and experience.
When something happened to their clients, a coach always asks
their client what they had learned from the event. When something
new is going to happen to the client, a coach will also ask the client
what he/she can learn from that. When something is happening to
the client, a coach will also ask the client what he/she is learning from
it.
These are simple questions but they generate much more effects than
simply telling them the answers.
