Julie,

I think you should listen to your mom and not take those shots again. If you do
a search on the net, you'll read what I did and most comments were not good and
some people are suing the company that makes the depo shots due to health
problems they now have because of it. Good Luck and have fun at the gym or the
mall. God Bless You Too!

Yes, that is the one I got!!!! My mom does not want me either to get it
anymore. The worse thing that happened to me today was that I was at the gym
and while I was on the elliptical trainer and I started to have an aura. I
got off of there ASAP. Rather than being embarrassed in front of a bunch of
people in the gym, I went in the women's change room. Thankfully I did not
have a Grand Mal after that. One lady saw me in the change room and got help
for me. The staff were all helpful and called my mom to come pick me up
rather than me taking the bus.

I remember my doctor mentioning that one thing that had to be monitored
while being on this shot is my blood pressure. He checked it after one month
had gone by since I got the shot (can't remember what date that was). Just a
day or 2 ago I wanted him to check it again but unfortunately he had quit
his practice and had left it for a guy I don't even know. So I was not happy
at all and it was time for me to look for a new doctor (which I did). I have
an appointment this coming Wednesday with my new doctor. The reason why I
wanted him to check my blood pressure again was because when I was at the
gym I again was on the elliptical trainer. During my time on it, I started
feeling some chest pains or like I had one lung. So I got off there and just
went home. I told my mom that maybe I was just tired cause I really worked
hard on the stair climber. That day instead of burning 100 calories, I did
200 calories.

I hope to have a good night sleep. Hopefully I can go to the gym tomorrow or
else I can just take a rest or go to the malls.

Tea time now. Anyone want a cup?

God Bless

Julie,

Is the shot you're taking DepProvera, if so, I went to this website where
alot of women are complaining about it and even filing lawsuits because of
bad side effects. I was checking into it for my daughter in the hopes that
it would stop her periods and therefore stop her catamenial seizures, but I
m not so sure I want to go with the shot anymore.

on anti-convulsants because it would not stop the anti-convulsants
from working. The problems I was constantly having was severe cramps
when my so called 'friend' came on and spotting. The only medication
that would help with the pain was Naproxen.

Now the doctor told me I would have some 'light' spotting here and
there. But just a week ago I started spotting as though I were

unfortunatly he quit his practice and the guy that has taken over

Yesterday I bumped into my pschiotrist at the gym. I asked her if
there is a possibility where all the medication I am on made the
birth control stop working. She said there is a chance that there
might of been some interaction.

To this very day I am on Tegretol, Prozac, Topamax, and Dicetel.
The 'odd' times I take Naproxen for pain.

I am wondering if any of our ladies out there have had almost the

Dear Ashley:
Hi! I am sorry to hear that you have been having so much
trouble lately with seizures. But if I were you and my doctor had not been
giving me straight answers, I would ask the pharmasist about the medication
and thier side effects for he will know more about how the combinations will
effect your body. A specialist only knows about a medication in his field
because he looks them up in a book or hears about them in a seminar. They have
no idea about the other parts of your body or how the other medications will
work like a pharmicist does. I ask mine about the side effects of each new
prescription I have field before filling them to see if it will condridict
with the ones I am presentily taking.

Ashley,

Are you sure that these things are not side effects from the AEDs?

Thank you for the good wishes- sorry I was not able to respond until now. Hope u
had a good Christmas and New Years.

MY gf went to NY where she most likely is going to have the surgery. They are
still watching how things go and I hope the surgery will take care of this.
I just find it odd that she has them every day
I wish I could do something for her.
She also had ovarian cancer which I personally think might be for the increase
in them.

There might be a link in progesterone level and both of them- might be help

I will keep her in my thoughts and prayers that her seizures will get

I had the VNS surgery in April of this year. It has really helped since the
doctor raised the stimulation for the 3rd time last month.

I wish the both of you a very happy holiday. Keep us informed on how things go.

Take care

Eric....I looked up the Cyanozed generlaized seizures and it mainly is a complex
seizure along with tonic clonic. A mixture of both...ALL the neuro had no idea
what was happening to my child until the sleep study had showed activity of the
brain when he did stop breathing and then the EP ward determined it futher and
Dxed him with EP. He has right temporal lope EP...what is interesting to me is
that the Cyanozed is also a breathing spell holding his breath that the brain
isn't aware he is doing...very scary...thankful to GOD that he is 5 mos without
any spells....he is on keppra and trileptal and the EP Dr told me that Keppras
sister drug is used in many countries to stop the breathing spells so that was
very interesting research...thanks for your input...Yvonne(Baby Franks Mom)

Hello,

My wife suffers from complex-partial seizures that very occasionally
generalize. She occasionally has a very painful "burning sensation" in her
arms, legs and torso concurrent with a seizure. Her neurologist says that
pain is very uncommon in epilepsy (and I think he believes that those
particular symptoms are psychological in nature), so it was with interest
that I read one of the last posts that included pain as a description of
symptoms. Does anyone have any feedback about this?

Also, she often has a panic attack and a feeling of being very hungry right
before a seizure. Does anyone have any experience with hunger preceding a
seizure?

Thanks!

Hello Craig
Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers.

I have not been hard on myself with the seizures happening. I was really upset
cause I was not able to go to Mississippi for New Year's eve and day. It is
also my sisters b'day on New Year's day. So she, her husband, my fiance and
myself had big ideas on what to do.

I was thinking that my neuro. I see in New Orleans (fisch) talked with the
neuro. in Baton Rouge (zuckerman). It seems like he has not. The lamictal Dr.
Zuckerman (baton rouge) now has me taking has me very dizzy and with double
vision. So I will contact my neuro. in New Orleans, again, tomorrow to ask if I
should be on so much Lamictal. I did tell his nurse when I spoke with her
today. I told her about the neuro. in Baton Rouge raising my the Lamictal. She
said she was going to talk with my neuro.(in New Orleans) to let her him know
about the Lamictal. Never herd back from her. I tried contacting her 3 or 4
times and she never returned my calls. So tomorrow I will bother her until she
does tell me. She is new with working with Fisch, I feel that my be why I am
not use to hearing what my doctor has to say.
My seizure are on my left side and both the left and right of the back of my
brain. My right side is so weak now. It became worse after the bad grand mal
seizures in April of 2003. I now go see a therapist for that. I have not
started my classes yet, but will soon.

Thanks again for you thoughts. It does mean so much to me.

Take care
Ashley

Hi Ashley,

I'll be praying for you. It's no fun having seizures at anytime, but
especially at New Year's Eve. Don't be too hard on yourself though. I had
a grand mal on the first night of my honeymoon, and on my wedding night. My
wife and I decided to spend some time in the Wisconsin Dels a month ago for
our tenth anniversary, and I had a seizure in the hotel room. Sometimes the
pressure of the seasons can cause the brain that little extra stress that
will push you over the edge. It sounds like you have a similar seizure
pattern that I do. You must have your seizure activity on the left side of
the brain since your right side becomes weak afterwards. My right side
becomes totally immobilized after a grand mal. I can start to move it after
about an hour, but I don't dare walk for another few hours.

So, don't be hard on yourself. They are only seizures. You did not cause
them. Take some time and relax.

Hello everyone

I do hope that everyone had a Happy & Safe New Year.

For me it was not a good one. I have 2 grandmal seizures Thursday night and
spent New Year eve in the hospital. I just can not believe this happened.
I was feeling so good that day. It happened around 7:30 pm. The only thing
I remembered was when the complex seizure started. I became very scared,
confused and my right side was in so much pain. My fiance gave be two
diastates before the EMS (it took them about 30 minutes) came. When I awoke
I was in a room waiting to get a personal hospital room. I did not get one
till around 2:00 am. I was also unable to speak.
The next day I was unable to speak & think correctly and my right side was
very weak. The neuro. (Zuckemen) that my Neurologist in New Orleans (Fisch)
spoke with agreed on raising my lamictal - so now I take 750mg. aday when it
was 325mg before.
Since all this happened I am still having so many problems. My right side
is weak, I can not speak and think correctly, I am also hearing thins that
are not there. I also am having small auras and samll seizures dailing. So
my doctor has me taking ativan every time this happens. So for it has not
happened today.
With me hear things happening to me after the really serious seizure in
April of 2003, my doctor in New Orleans had me taking medication for it. He
had put me back on it.

I am still having a hard time believing this happened. I could understand
if I had been feeling bad that day. I wasn't.

Let me go for now. I am waiting for another phone call.

Take care

Oh Ashley, I am so sorry that this has happened to you. Are these catamenial
seizures that you're having? Michelle seems to have them about 1 to 1 1/2 weeks
before her period and they seem to come in twos or threes plus a few partials.
She also seems to be fine all day and then she'll have them at night. I hope
that things get better for you. You're in my prayers.

Congratulations!! I'm sure you feel relieved. I am so thrilled for you. It's
nice to have something so wonderful come into your life after all the struggles.
My first daughter has a severe seizure disorder and we don't know if it's
genetic. But we decided we wanted her to have a sibling so we tried and after 1
miscarriage we finally got our wish. Of course the whole pregnancy I was scared
that we would pass on the seizures again. But everything went fine and on
November 16 we had another beautiful baby girl Annika Nicole 7lbs 12oz 20 in
long. She too is very alert and developing at a steady pace. I feel like a new
mom because my other daughter, Samantha, developed totally different. Children
are such a blessing, good luck to you and your new family.

you prayers and mine, because on November 11 I had a healthy baby
girl name Mariah Elizabeth. She weighed 7lbs 14.4oz, and was 21
inches long. The doctors say that she is a very alert and a fast
