There is no known epilepsy in my family either, but my 7 3/4yo son was diagnosed
almost 2yo ago.
Don't go by family history alone, sometimes families kept epilepsy a secret
because it was shameful. Plus it is suspected that my son's epilepsy started
much earlier before his diagnosis because of the brain damage that it caused (he
had only 'Silent Seizures' then). We just thought he was daydreaming a lot
before his EEG, which could easily have happened to others thru the generations.
You may want to put her on the medication, it can only help.

We discovered this after picking her up from a sleepover. She is 14. A CAT scan
and blood work came back fine. An eeg came back abnormal. The neurologist wants
to put her on Keppra XR. She has not had a seizure yet. Is it absolutely
necessary for her to be on medication? I would greatly appreciate advice. My
daughter has always been a healthy child. We do not have a family history of
epilepsy, so this is all very new and scary to us.
