Hi Kristi,
I'm no doctor, but I would suggest going with the doctor's orders.
It's easier to get control while she's young. Keppra has very few side effects,
so she should do fine. Also, myoclonic jerks are seizures. Check out this
webpage.....
http://www.epilepsy.com/EPILEPSY/seizure_myoclonic and click on the term
"juvenile myoclonic epilepsy."

Hi Everyone,
My daughter has been experiencing myoclonic jerks when she is sleep deprived. We
discovered this after picking her up from a sleepover. She is 14. A CAT scan and
blood work came back fine. An eeg came back abnormal. The neurologist wants to
put her on Keppra XR. She has not had a seizure yet. Is it absolutely necessary
for her to be on medication? I would greatly appreciate advice. My daughter has
always been a healthy child. We do not have a family history of epilepsy, so
this is all very new and scary to us.
