Hi Kristi,
I am the only one on both sides of my family who has any type of seizure
activity. If an EEG does come back abnormal, it may be a good idea to put
her on a low dose of an anti-seizure medication, especially since she is
experiencing myoclonic jerks. My seizure activity started out as just
simple partials, but my parents never had it treated, then by the time I was
10 or 11 I started experiencing grand mal seizures, and then they had to
treat it. It was not until I turned 25 were the grand mals finally under
control by medication. I now will have the simple partials once or twice a
week, and then a petit mal about once a year. I believe, though, if my
parents had tried medicating me sooner, I may not be experiencing seizures
at this time.

Subject: [Epilepsy Support and Education] Advice Needed
Hi Everyone,
My daughter has been experiencing myoclonic jerks when she is sleep deprived
We discovered this after picking her up from a sleepover. She is 14. A CAT
scan and blood work came back fine. An eeg came back abnormal. The
neurologist wants to put her on Keppra XR. She has not had a seizure yet. Is
it absolutely necessary for her to be on medication? I would greatly
appreciate advice. My daughter has always been a healthy child. We do not
have a family history of epilepsy, so this is all very new and scary to us.
