We may never know, but The Travolta's believe in Scientology which is not a
"typical" church. I researched it a bit and Scientology doesn't believe in a lot
of medical issues, therefore they don't treat for them. That would have put him
in more danger.
You are doing the best you can for your children, finding the meds that work the
best is a good place to start.
When your kids get old enough to drive, if it's not safe enough for them to
drive, their Neurologist will tell them that. My Neurologist was the one to
assure my parents I would be fine driving.
The best thing you can do for your kids is talk, talk talk. Be very open with
them. Be sure their Neurologist talks to them too. I'm 49 and I still remember
my first Neurologist. Guess why.....he spoke to me first......he asked how I was
doing and what questions I had. Back then I only went to see my Neuro once a
year, things were going great. When the time got close, I would write down some
questions.....Mom would remind me when the appointment was close of course : )
He still lives here and I am sooo tempted to give him a call. He has helped me
through some tough years and I'll never forget that. I'd love to share that with
him. He's been retired for years now.
When your kids get a good start, they will be fine......no matter
what !!!!!!!!!!

Oh how true all of these fears are. My daughter wants to do everything that
other kids are doing and friends and family think I'm being over protective. Its
not that I would ever be happy about anyone going through something like this,
however, I feel like some are starting to believe my fears and concerns. My
heart and prayers go out to all affected by this illness. The is no easy way to
protect with out feeling to over proctive. All I try to do is allow her to do
what she wants but never do I get far from her.

This is something I think about often. My fears are amplified when a
celebrity goes thru the tragedy of losing a child due to epilepsy and
its heard in the news for days on end.
Death due to complications of epilepsy or SUDEP makes me
overprotective of my 7yo ds. The Travolta's son hit his head in the
bathtub during a seizure, Hunter Tylo's son drowned in his pool when
he had a seizure standing next to it (then fell in it) and lastly
Florence Griffith-Joyner suffocated in her pillow after a seizure.
Sorry for being so glum, but my sympathies and fears are still
fresh. How can we best protect our little ones without being
overprotective? (ex//I can't take my ds' pillows away or he won't
sleep) Or help them be independent when its not in their best
interest to take baths alone or sometimes even drive?
Does anyone else have these thoughts or fears?
