Hiya all
I am sending the following thread because I have a great respect for Dr Geo
von Hilsheimer of Matiland, FL. He has a wealth of experience of over forty
years with remarkable results.
Many of the same issues that face people with ADD/ADHD are helpful to those
with epilepsy and other mood disorders., OCD, Tourette's and etc.
Here's his website, too. http://www.drbiofeedback.com/
I hope this helps some of you who are not sure about the importance of diet,
supplements and the value of neurofeedback training in supporting brain issues.
My son came to us at age six. We had no idea what we were getting into.
Hyperactive is not the word I would use to describe his behavior at that
point...... off the walls, ceilings, chandeliers, is more like it. Nonstop. On
three or
four behavioral control medications including melarrill and ritalin plus AEDs.
Head banging, handwringing, rocking on no rocker, talking in advertising
phrases not stop at the top of his lungs, but not communicating. Perseveration
makes a broken record stuck on a turntable seem like a melody. Eneuretic.
Marginal bowel control. Little feeling on his skin... outside in diapers in the
snow.
And the life threatening seizures and infections in the brain. And he had
strokes on his day of birth. And, he had been in at least four or five foster
homes and removed from one in 1966 for child abuse. He's survived about thirty
neurosurgical procedures.
These were the days before mandatory Special Education, before ADD/ADHD and
autism had names...... get the picture here?
I am not sure how I have survived all of the above. If I can do it, you can
too. And, more importantly, so can you and your child find a way to thrive, in
spite of it all.
My son's goal now is to go to colleges to become a massage therapist, get
married and become a father. He's come a long way.
As I read your stories on the groups, my heart goes out to you all.
We hope, one day soon, to spend some time in Florida USA with Dr. von H. He
has been so willing to provide guidance and support via email for about three
years now to me. This stuff works.

MJH, be my guest. Happy for anyone to copy anything I type. The B-6/Mg
suggestion is good for epilepsy as well as for ADHD. I don't have a big brief
for
Magonate, which isn't that expensive, Tomm Friend pushes it and my clients
tolerate it, but any form of Mg, including epsom salts, is quite biologically
active. Epsom salts soaks are v. tranquilizing!

Hiya Dr vH
THis post is so incredibly succinct. May I please crosspost it to some of
the Epilepsy groups? I will remove the email address of Bel but not yours.
By the way, I think that Magonate is rather expensive at over a dollar a dose
per day at minimum. There was a recent discussion on a sulfur group with a
link re Mg chloride that also claims to be the most bioavailable.... here it
is, in case you have not seen it.
Well, I can't find it, too many links. When it surfaces again, I will
forward it.
Hope you and your Mom are well

Bel, don't your lads have names? 3 and 6 is too numerical!
The very first thing for you to do is a trial of magnesium. You should know
that epsom salts is magnesium sulfate, and that soaks in baths with epsom
salts frequently calm the savage child. In addition the product Magonate is
rather gentler on the stomach than epsom salts, but you can make
comparisons. Any drugstore can get Magonate for you, but look at
www.magonate.com . Once you've found the less than laxative level of Mg for
your sons, the add B-6, 100 mg per 40# of weight. Often this is all you
have to do. Every mean (just give a snack after school rather than trying
to get school to do any supplements).
In addition, these children frequently have poor digestion, and it is wise
to give digestive enzymes, see
www.getvitamins.com/gv/brands.html?brand=AbsorbAid I find that AbsorbAid,
itself, is often calming.
In addition a good multivitamin is needed, use Insurance Formula
www.bronsonvitamins.com also a good source for B-6. To my certain
knowledge Insurance Formula is the only vitamin formula with ANY science in
its construction. It was designed by the late Roger Williams whose book,
NUTRITION AGAINST DISEASE, you ought to read.
Neither Dr. Bate nor I have any economic interest in any vitamin or
supplement company.
It is sometimes wise to give very tiny doses of the drugs which physicians
will prescribe for ADD/ADHD, Ritalin, amphetamines etc etc. For some reason
they seldom try tiny doses. You may find that you can have a splendid
result. Long time use of these drugs has been
reported, there is no significant danger, although there is seldom a real
need for them. However, I have several parents who are VERY grateful for
the relief amphetamine etc gave before we could solve the problem with more
healing methods.
You should consider EEG biofeedback, you can find a list of qualified
workers at www.eegdirectory.com . You can find a device to use yourself at
www.pocket-neurobics.com - there are a wide range of instruments which Dr.
Bate leases. After seeing the pocket eeg two years ago, I myself began
discounting and selling it and maintain a
list for those using the device. I personally own and use eight systems,
the Neurocybernetics, the F1000b, the Play Attention, the Easy Brain
Trainer, the Brain III Czech device, the BioComp 2010, and the Autogen A620
as well as the Pocket EEG. If you want the discount order it by a private
e-mail to me drvonh@... . Any and all of these devices to a
good job, there is a lot of sales hype in the field, but the truth is simple
and inexpensive is the way to fly.
