Hi:
I'm also new. I also belong to a few other groups (epilepsycured, epilepsy,
and epilepsy-kids).
My 12 year old son has had epilepsy since he was 6 1/2. He has simple
partial seizures which seem to come from the left temporal lobe. We have
tried various drugs and have had various successes. We have tried the
Ketogenic diet which didn't work. We are looking for ways other than drugs
to help control his seizures. He is a fairly normal 12-year-old and just
wishes he didn't have seizures to complicate his life. He finds them very
embarassing.
At the moment we are trying NAET (Nambudripad's Allergy Elimination
Technique) since his seizures increase during times when his seasonal
allergies are acting up. We figured that if we can cure him of his
allergies then at least that will get rid of some of his seizures.
Since reading a book by Adrienne Richard and Joel Reiter I have taught him
relaxing breathing and he has used it a few times to prevent a seizure.
However, since he is an active kid, he often doesn't think to do the
breathing without me reminding him. We are also looking into neuro-feedback
as a possibility when he's a bit older. We think he needs to be a little
more self-motivated to do some of these things and get the maximum benefits.
If anyone here has any other suggestions of things we could try, we would be
very interested. We're always looking for alternatives.
Sandra
