Hi Zoe,
Welcome to this group! I'm very new myself, and there aren't many people who
seem to be communicating on this site, so it's good to hear from someone.
I was diagnosed with epilepsy last May, and have not been able to gain control
of my seizures yet. Doctors have told me I have Complex Partial seizures in the
Left Temporal Lobe which progress into Generalized Absence seizures. They have
prescribed Tegretol, Depakote and Topamax, with terrible results each time.
None of the medicines alleviated the seizures and all of them had strong and
notable side effects. Usually, I have 5-15 seizures per day. While taking
Topamax I had between 50 and 70 seizures per day. Next week I will be off of
drugs completely, and though I still have seizures, my family is glad that my
personality and mind have returned, now that my drug dose is so low.
Currently I am working with a nutritionist, who has a Ph.D. in Biochemistry, to
get help with my seizures. In addition, my GYN has helped me, as there are some
factors related to hormones, prescription B vitamins and general health concerns
that seem to cross over between the neurological and gynecological fields. My
Neurologist was not helpful, so I am in the process of changing Neurologists.
In Colorado, it takes a long time to get in to a neurologist's office, so I will
have to wait about three months for a new doctor.
That's probably more than you wanted to know about me. I hope to hear more
about you, and how you were able to successfully control your seizures without
drugs.
Thanks for writing, and again, welcome!

I just joined this group and am active in the epilepsycured group as
well. I have been seizure free for just about four years with no
drugs and am interested in what others are doing that works for
stopping their seizures. I have several articles and interviews on my
web page about self-control of seizures.
