Hi Ann!
I was just diagnosed with epilepsy last May 2001. I am having about 50 -70
petit mal seizures per day. They are complex partial seizures that progress
into generalized absence seizures. My doctors have had me on Tegretol, Depakote
and Topamax, with terrible results. At the last appointment, the doctor
conceded that the Topamax was making my seizures worse, but threatened that if I
got off of the medicine, I could die. I have been very discouraged.
However, I found a book by Patricia A. Murphy, called Treating Epilepsy
Naturally that has been the most encouraging information I have found about
epilepsy yet. She was able to get off of medications totally, safely, and
responsibly, and shares insights gained from the medical community and
alternative health care providers. It has helped me far more than my current
doctor has, and I am pursuing other doctors who are willing to use intgrative
approaches to my health.
I hope this will help you, too.
Good luck!

I live in Alberta, Canada. I have had
Epilepsy for almost 30 yrs, minus 10 yrs of remission I guess you
could say. Anyhow, I am on 7 pills a day(Tegretol and Topomax)and
would love to hear from others that have turned to alternatives
(acupuncture, surgery, hypnosis etc...)I have atleast 2-3 petit mal
seizures a week. I will go the odd week with none, or have 5 in a
week. I do have 2 children, work part time as a medical assistant,
but find that lately all of this medication is affecting my memory
and speech incredibly!!!!! Has that happened to any one? The memory
part? Well talk to you later!!! Ann
