Dear All, The responses from both Phyllis and Bernie were so moving! I think it is so important as a women to feel a connection with women that have gone before-particularly since so many of us are faceless, nameless and without written histories once we are gone. It is a gift to them and ourselves to reconnect with love and joy in the endless stream of motherhood, friendship, being wives, working, suffering, etc.
Sometimes I just look at my Great grandmother's picture and try to join her. She is sitting on her front porch in a rocking chair. She is probably about 45 in the picture-she eyes are very expressive and warm. She has a long dress on-of course she would-She was born in l872. It was probably about 1912 or 1914 in the picture. She had already had 11 babies-two died under two years of age! How painful! She had a wonderful husband and the porch was part of a lovely big home that his friend the archietect had designed for them. Who took the picture? Where were all the children? What was her day like? I love just gazing at Sara Watchmaker-Yes, she had a name-and she is still very important to me!
How about you? Who comes to mind from the past? Please share.
Take care,
Barbara
