Dear Berni and group, What a wonderful message! I too, almost always feel when I am with a client that I am being given a gift. It feels so right to me to listen and try to be helpful. Also, when I reach out to you around the Enchanted Self I feel right again. So, I too am blessed. A small and different kind of blessing happened last week- I share it with you as kind of reminder to never undervalue yourself.
I was looking through my file cabinet in the attic for a few minutes. It holds great treasures-everything from love letters, old diaries to term papers long forgotten and many other memory traces of my life. This time I found a batch of letters from some of the children in my class when I left Bridgeport to more to Fairfield in the third grade. One of the little girls wrote how much she missed me. She said that she kept looking over at my empty desk, where "you should have been sitting" and missing me. First she would think that I was sick but then she would remember that I had moved away and feel very sad.
This was an amazing note. It made me realize how deeply we affect each other at all ages and stages of our life. I don't remember this little girl now, but her message that I was so special to her, was as fresh as if I opened a letter today. She gave me a great gift-the gift of acknowledgement so many years later. Let's never underestimate our power to be important to each other.
Enjoy your holidays and join us in sharing! Dr. Barbara Becker Holstein
