Re: [encself] Digest Number 104

Hi Group,
I was reading Barbara's letter below and it brought to mind several thoughts.
During childhood many seeds are planted in our early years. We may not necessarily hear them, or respond to them, or even have the opportunity to acknowledge them but they are there. As we grow some of those seeds will have the opportunity to grow, develop, and blossom.  What does it take for this to happen?  Some of us are lucky in that early on we have support either by familiy and friends, or financial support, or great opportunites to pursue and direct our lives, and our careers towards what brings us joy.  Some of us have to wait.  Barbara had seeds planted  by her parents. She also stayed true to her own ideas of personal joy. Eventually it all came together.
As adults we need to take time to get in touch with our Enchanted Selves.  What brings us joy?  What do we truly like to do?  This may take time to discover. It's not always easy given personal, family and career commitments.  But time passes on and if one doesn't start now, when?
When I was in my teens I came to a point when I thought to myself what do I want to do with my life? I had 2 choices.  I could do what someone else wanted me to do, or I could live my life doing something that brought me joy and happiness. I chose the 2nd.  I had many seeds planted in  my childhood.  My mother always told me to stand up tall, sit up straight.  I had grandparents who loved to dance at family visits.  I was always moving and wiggling around as a child.  All these experience which turned into memories  were stirred together.  What came out is a person who loves to move/dance while teaching  others the joy of movement  and effective body alignment. Of course I have other interestsI that are just  now coming out.  My search for more spiritual connections and meaning in my life are coming through not only in my dancing but in my readings, teaching children and joining ongoing study groups. I enjoy baking and do alot of it during the colder months. While it brings back the smells and delights of my own mothers and grandmothers cooking  I am simultaneously passing this joy onto my daughter who I hope will save this in her own personal positive memory bank.  Well enough said.  I hope that you all are doing things somewhere in your life that brings you joy.  If not don't despair.  It's never too late to take action.

Dear Group,  I was just re-reading Bernie's letter and thinking about my own
past.  So many times my parents gave me suggestions that at the time I just
ran from!  Hasn't that happened to you? In fact, my parents also had
encouraged me to be a teacher for lots of similar reasons as Bernie's dad.  I
didn't want to be!  I wanted to be an actress or a physician or a writer.  I
am very much a teacher as the years have gone by.  It is simply in me.  Also,
I am a writer and a kind of healer.  And sometimes I get a chance to act.
So-what we often do come back to talents and potential and sometimes fitting
circumstances that have been recognized by loved ones early on.

On the other hand,  I have re-invented the ways I use these skills very
differently from the ways my parents were imagining when they thought of me
becoming a second grade teacher!  That's where my personal magic came in and
knowing myself very well and daring to design a future for myself!

I bet many of you dared to design who you are and what you are doing.  Please
share.  It would be great to hear some of the stories of YOUR lives!

Take care,

Barbara
