Dear All, Berni's response was so moving and deep! It is certainly a
feeling of being blessed when I feel in 'flow' with my life as Bernie talks
about. I believe that we have to struggle everyday putting together our
inspiration (which may mean divine inspiration of some type, events that just
seem to go our way, or very often in the work-a-day pattern of our lives, our
own mental insights as we evaluate our lives and circumstances) with what I
call mental perspiration. This is the ongoing hard dilemma. Let me give an
example.
When I was in graduate school, I soon realized that incredibly helpful
things happened to me when I spent the day at the University rather than at
my apartment. I bumped into people, I found books I needed, I got to talk to
my advisor extra times, I felt pleasure in talking to people and feeling
wanted. However, the hard part was that it was hard to get there-sometimes
it was so easy to stay in the apartment and watch TV and sleep late! Then I
would rationalize that I wouldn't miss anything anyway. I had to push
myself out many times. Finally, success fed on itself. I just enjoyed being
at the University too much to miss it. I knew I would get my dissertation
done finally and finish and the external rewards were now loud and clear.
However, inspiration was not enough-it took plenty of mental perspiration
also.
What do you think?
Take care,
Barbara
