Stay Safe,
Robyn
Well, 4 treatments down, 12 to go!!!!!!!! I have to tell you
all, this last go round was really bad. My cat, who yes she is still alive and
afraid to leave my side now , accidentally bit me the Fri night before I was due
for chemo. Even though I followed all the proper (not to mention improper)
medical procedures to make sure there wouldn't be an infection, wrong answer.
That Sun night I was broken out in a rash that I was pretty sure was a case of
shingles again, but, what do I know :-)? Mon am I got to MD Anderson and they
drew blood and all that other fun stuff. The oncologist came in to see me, and
1st thought it was shingles too, but, was sending the infectious disease dr to
see me. Oh joy! She wanted an MRI of my hand to see how deep the infection was,
plus it was determined I did also have shingles. They had me on IV antibiotics
for the infection, even after the chemo, every 6hrs. Plus horse pills to swallow
for the shingles (of course, they were nothing compared to the horse pills I
still have to take for the infection). At least by Wed night, they decided they
only had to run the huge bags of saline when they ran the antibiotics and could
unhook me after each antibiotic bag was done. Course, Mom had also decided that
Wed I was going home, so she had taken down all my pictures, and packed
everything up. Boy was she disappointed :-) The docs kept saying maybe tomorrow,
but they were still debating on if I was going to have to come in every day for
IV antibiotics for 2 weeks, or pills, or what. Bless my poor mom, cuz she kept
changing her flight home till we knew what the story was. I know ppl called me
in the hospital, I was in the VIP suite and remember answering the phone
"Goddess' suite", except by Thurs when I was very cranky and would answer it
"Bitch Goddess' suite". I don't remember a whole lot about the week, besides
being very scared and worried that I would have to get rid of Nikita. She has
been very good healing medicine for me. They finally let me go Fri and I came
home and slept. I have been doing a lot of that since then, plus coping w/some
mood swings, which I am sure has to do w/all the meds they still have me on. I
go back to the infectious disease doc Mon and the oncologist Thurs. I thank
everyone for the prayers and cards and emails and calls. Yesterday I had a
mailbox full of snail cards and a new bunny (thanks Kelly), and more cards
today. That has done a ton to help lift my spirits.
So, now I am once again, slowly working on trying to regain some
strength and keep my stomach down. To the numerous calls on my answering
machine, sorry I didn't call you back. To everyone else, sorry I worried you. On
the brighter side, I am a quarter of the way done!!!!!
