Active ingredients in effective brief therapies for Trauma and PTSD
About the speaker: Stephen Bisbey is a Certified Trauma Specialist,
trained in EMDR (level II), Direct Therapeutic Exposure, Debriefing and
many other methods. He has worked extensively on formal controlled
studies to compare the effectiveness of TIR, EMDR and DTE in PTSD
resolution. He is co-author of one of the main books on the subject of
TIR *- edited by Windy Dryden. He has worked in the field of Trauma for
20 years and was involved in the development of TIR itself. He is also
innovator of many other TIR related techniques for resolving various
manifestations of stress.
About the talk: This talk is on a cognitive model that demonstrates how
trauma (and PTSD) comes about and how its symptoms can be overcome. The
model is presented by its developer Mr. Stephen Bisbey.
The model complements and clarifies the principles underlying the
technique of Traumatic Incident Reduction (TIR) - a structured imaginal
exposure method for enabling a client to fully assimilate and
accommodate their past traumatic experience. It also clarifies how some
other PTSD treatments are effective.

Traumatic Incident Reduction (Basic TIR) - Saturday 11 Oct or Friday 17
Oct 2003
A one day workshop
The ‘Basic TIR workshop’ is the first module of Level 1 TIR training.
TIR Level 1 is completed in the second workshop (18-19th Oct). This
workshop involves practicing the procedure as practitioner and client.
Brief Description of TIR:
TIR, or Traumatic Incident Reduction, is a unique regressive,
repetitive, desensitization procedure - highly focused, directive, and
controlled, yet at the same time wholly person-centered,
non-interpretive, and non-judgmental. Developed by Frank A. Gerbode,
M.D., Stephen Bisbey, and others, TIR is best known for its use as an
extremely effective tool in the rapid resolution of virtually all
trauma-related conditions, including PTSD. In competent hands, however,
TIR also has applications in addressing and resolving a litany of other,
less obviously trauma-related symptoms and conditions representing a
significant part of DSM-IV. A partial list would certainly include
adjustment disorders, acute stress, traumatic bereavement, dysthymic
disorders, major depressive disorders, anxiety disorders, somatization
disorders, sexual abuse, and phobias.
