Re: Hi all

Why is my squad's insurance carrier fighting me? Well that certainly could be
multifaceted...
one....because they can...to avoid payment
two....because my squad was underinsured and only had the county self-insurance
plan and no back-p insurance which most other squads have because you need it.
Three....and the list could go on, but ultimately they have been finally brought
to task....they ARE responsible for my injury, and now it is just a matter of
adjudicating the amount. I have a fantastic lawyer. He beat PEPSICO in what
should have been a cut and dry case with my now husband, but they dragged it out
for 5 years. I met my now husband shortly after I got back from Katrina. I was
responding to the 25-30 thousand people in the Superdome before, during and
after the hurricane. I was one of anywhere between 3 and 8 people working out of
the first aid station for all those people during that time. (I was the only
paramedic from New York State)
I would like to add that many responders for 9/11 in the state of NY are still
not being compensated today and many have since died. I am hoping that once my
case gets resolved that it can be used as a precedent to help those people who
are all caught up in red tape.

Reference Stephanie Korzyk-Haggart vs. Ballston Lake Emergency Squad for any of
you out there wanting to give info to your lawyers. I did "win" the case, I'm
just waiting for the money end to be decided. Feel free to email me off post as
well for any added info you may need.

be disabled now but I still haven't lost my fight. I imagine it will be a long
battle but they have screwed me for many years now. I understand the stress
stuff. I continued to function at a very high level for years but when I
crashed it was very hard. I have been a Police Officer for 19 years and I am
having to learn to redefine who I am. I'm actually learning now that it's not a
bad thing. While I have always had a great sense of humor, I had gotten pretty
crusty....lol Now I am finally trying to take some time to get the therapy that
I have desperately needed and just try to heal as much as possible.

current activity going on and feel a sense of comraderie even when I don't speak
up. Sometimes I feel so overwhelmed that even to write on this page is just too
much for me. Since Katrina (when I was a paramedic) I was able to manage nursing
school part-time mostly because of all I already knew. I became a registered
nurse and have been working in the ICU. It continues ot get more and more
stressful for me to try to keep it up AND manage my life as well. I honestly
don't know how much longer I can keep it up. I will continue to work as a nurse,
but will find a more laid back environment to work in. I have to..... My EMS
squad is still fightinhg me on my worker's comp claim. The case was finally
decided on in my favor and we have gone back and forth with settlement offers.
My final offer before taking this back to litigation has not been responded to
by them. It will now go back to court to force them to respond. It's been almost
four years. If they do not agree to my final offer, we go back to litigation and
they will end up having to pay more in the long run.....oh well.

I have had severe chronic PTSD for 12 years and continued to work and battle it
until last summer when I just finally cratered. I know Katrina was bad. I hate
that you went through that. You will find a lot of support here. We have all
been through some rough stuff. How are things going with you?

aniversary of the tornado that brought me to this forum and have managed to
survive it better this year although it did set off the auto-immune problems
pretty good. I have started EMDR and I am finding that with so many years
working homicide and child abuse cases it's going to be a long hall to work
through everything. One of you talked about having social security money dumped
in your account before having gotten a letter of approval. That just happened to
me this morning and even the attorney dosen't know what up. Can you guys tell me
what happened after this experience. I want to be really excited that at least
that battle is over but am afraid to be. I hope everyone is doing okay!
