Subject: Re: [EMS Fire Police PTSD] New Here
welcome to the family, you will find other people some of whom have been
formally diagnosed and some of whom are self diagnosed...with or without a
dr certifying it...finding a or therapist to speak to is the hardest part i
think...it is important to keep trying until you find the one who makes you
most comfortable...and remember if you ever want to talk we are here
the 1st thing i will reccommend to you is the most important i can think of
and that is start a journal...it can be in a notebook or a word document or
even a private online blog...write about anything and everything that you do
each day even the silly little stuff...and especially write down anything
that is happening around the time of any PTSD related incidents like
flashbacks or panic attacks...it will help you find your triggers...once you
have identified them you can begin to individually conquer them...it could
be anything a site a sound a smell a color a place...it is important to
identify them and the best way is by writing it down...and petterns will
emerge...you will begin to relize hey the last 3 panic attacks i was in
traffic behind a red car...and that would be your trigger that you can then
consciously next time you are behind a red car tell yourself...it is ok i
will be fine...even if you have to say it out loud...
i know it sounds silly but it does work!
ok so i have to run...i am sorry i cannot type much more but my house is
under renovations so i am sitting at a library on a horrible connection that
keeps locking me out of pages saying that page has been viewed too many
times...like i cannot get to the groups home page LOL luckily i had an old
email where i needed to approve a post that i could use that link to get
into here
