Helen,
I was not correctly diagnosed and that delayed treatment.
I found a place that I spent a week at that specializes in emergency
services personal and that is where I was first exposed to EMDR. As it was a
residential setting with lots of support my first EMDR session lasted for
over 3 hours. I will say to just let things happen while undergoing EMDR as
it is very freeing, I have a lot of stuff still behind a locked door as I
call it that will take a long time to get out.
I am in PA and the determination is done by the state for Social Security. I
am a complicated case as I have physical issues that are the result of an
accident I was in on duty as a paramedic. I had a second opinion with a
family doc on Wednesday about that and have to see the psychiatrist
tomorrow. After the appt with the first doc I am not real impressed that
they are fair and impartial. But what can I do?
My therapist is real nice and understanding, even called to check up after I
got a migraine and had to head off to my primary for pain killers. She felt
responsible for causing it in the EMDR session. I have found out that things
causing my PTSD go back to my early childhood and have been very repressed.
Well good luck and keep us in your extended family informed.
