smells, sounds, taste, feel and sight, can all trigger flashbacks.
i know you are not alone in having smells that trigger your
flashbacks. the first step is to identify them. once you have
identified those triggers, then you can work one by one to move past
them. i know it is hard, but it can be done. one of my triggers
is/was the sound of a fish tank - for the most part i avoid them to
this day (13 years after the event that they trigger) - when i can't
avoid them or stumble on one i stop myself and consciously have to
tell myself "it is ok, i am not there i can get thru this i will not
let it control me" - i know it sounds silly - but i say it over and
over again to myself until i am able to gain control over my senses
again and avert the flashback
