How to overcome Trauma – An overview of Traumatic incident Reduction
(TIR) counselling methods - 13th September.
Traumatic Incident Reduction is the name of an approach to counselling
that is best known for reducing Trauma and PTSD symptoms. The basics of
this extensive, yet easy-to-teach subject will be presented during an
hour and a half seminar by Henry Whitfield TIR Trainer (TIRA
Accredited).
The seminar will include:
* An overview of what trauma is and what the resolution of its
symptoms requires
* A discussion of active ingredients in other approaches to trauma
counselling
* A practical demonstration of a TIR procedure
* A sketch of how an advanced TIR practitioner works with her
clients using a range of tools.
What is TIR?
Traumatic Incident Reduction (TIR), in its basic form, is a repetitive
imaginal exposure method for enabling a client to assimilate and
accommodate their past traumatic experiences. The broader subject of TIR
can be described as a theoretically consistent collection of counselling
tools, designed to respond to many different needs and situations.
Controlled comparative studies with other methods for resolving PTSD
have demonstrated TIR to be consistently effective at resolving PTSD and
other effects of traumatic stress.
Time: 7:30 - 9:15pm
Date: 13th September 2004
Fees: £10 (Concessions £5 for Victim Support staff and volunteers).

“I recently attended a Basic TIR workshop led by Henry Whitfield in
York.
I've been quite sceptical about some approaches to trauma work, but I
must say that I am very impressed by what I have learned of TIR so far.
It's practical, easy to understand and immediately applicable to work
with clients.
Henry is an excellent teacher, so the day was great fun too! I'd been
expecting quite a gruelling day, working with difficult and painful
material, so it was a great bonus to find that I came away feeling
energised and excited.
I'm really looking forward to learning more.”

“I have completed TIR Level 1 and Level 2, attending the workshops
organised and co-ordinated by Henry Whitfield in London.
Not only did I find them very interesting and well conducted, but also
the quality of my counselling for young victims of crime has greatly
improved as a result of using the TIR techniques. “
